Garbage Kiosks

Strategically placed in high use areas, the Friends of the Grand River maintain 8 kiosks which yield over 100 bags of garbage per year. These kiosks have been sponsored by local and area businesses who share the same environmental concerns. The kiosks are a 4 'x 4' natural cedar structures built displaying a sign of the advertiser. The kiosk program has been very successful and are available on a yearly basis.

Kiosk Sponsors are as Follows:

Izaak Walton Fly Fishing Club

Jordy Enterprises

K-W Flyfishers

Winter Hatches Fly Club

Grand River Troutfitters Ltd.

Adopt a Road

The Friends of the Grand River has taken over cleaning virtually all the roads on both sides of the cold water section of the Grand. The first clean up removed over 50 bags of garbage, 10 bins of recyclable and $10.30 worth of beer bottles from the roadside. We are in the process of getting a new coordinator for this position.

River Watch

Our River Watch Program has been a huge success both as a tool to educate anglers on the special regulations and to discourage poaching. Our river watchers are trained by the OMNR and patrol the river in pairs recording any offenses to the special regulations informing the individuals of the special regulations. Charges have resulted to individuals who choose to ignore the special regulations. This program has had special acknowledgements from both the Grand River Conservation Authority and Ministry of Natural Resources.
