Guardian/River Watch Program
The Spring found Friends of the Grand River, very busy with the OPSUE strike, we had to get things underway early. The on going abuse of anglers who took it upon themselves to engage in a little out of season fishing, had the river watch program very active. It never fails to amaze me how, unless someone is watching their every move (MNR Conservation Officers) , that these idiots feel it is their god given right to screw-up our natural resources, in which they probably have never gone any further to contribute to than buy a license and that's questionable. I know from pass experience that it really gets your blood boiling when you try to convince these people what the regulations are for the area of the river they are in, only to be told to "go to hell there is nothing you can do about it". Well my friends, you can do lots without ending up in a fist fight. First things first, you get a description of the violator, including: height, approximate age, color of hair, facial features and car license number and make. Then that little number you carry around with you in case Mr. Brown Trout comes into play is needed; take the idiots picture with his/her prize fish, you could even go as far as asking him for his snail mail address so you can send him a copy, he'd probly give it to you. Total number of anglers talked to by River Watch during the strike was over 150 individuals, since the strike came to an end the numbers have dropped to less than 25. Put these in your address book
Here are some e-mail addresses for the president and members of the board of directors. Get in touch -- by communicating we get stronger.
