Who We Are

The Friends of the Grand River is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1995. The organization is made up of volunteers, with an elected board of directors. The funding for projects is raised through membership fees, donations, sponsorship and fund raising events. We are people who enjoy the benefits available on a clean and healthy river system. We believe that the Heritage River designation is precious and we would like to ensure that it will continue to be so in the future.

Where Are We

The Friends of the Grand River Organization is based in Fergus, and has members located throughout Ontario, the USA, and many other countries.

Why Do We Exist?

The Friends of the Grand River was organized to develop, promote and implement Projects which will preserve, conserve and enhance the ecology of the Grand River watershed. We provide conferences, workshops, seminars, public meetings and we distribute information to assist and involve the communities situated within the Grand River watershed.

What Are Our Objectives?

The Friends of the Grand River is action oriented and bases many of its activities around work projects in and around the Grand River Watershed. Our focus for membership is education, recreational activities and projects designed to improve our appreciation of the Grand River Watershed. Another focus is communication. We want to keep our members informed on the improvements and want to present a strong unified voice to parties who may be developing policies and projects which affect the Grand River watershed. We want to be part of the decision making process, and in the development of policies and projects which affect the Grand River watershed.

How Do We Achieve Our Goals?

Enhancement and maintenance projects professionally developed in cooperation with government agencies. Programs and seminars, lead by qualified members and guests, aiming to improving public awareness thereby increasing their enjoyment of the recreational resource. Newsletters highlighting successful achievements, seasonal activities, as well as present and up-and-coming projects.
